Choosing This Moment

Finding the beauty in the everyday

{Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real}

Posted: March 19, 2015 Under: Family and Parenting

I think I’m supposed to limit myself to one photo or set of photos for each category, but there were many noteworthy pretty, happy and funny moments in our lives this week. My noticing them was grace, all grace, for this was a week where I especially needed to see the beauty and joy around me. … Continue reading "{Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real}"

March 16th

Today is March 16th, 2015. Somewhere far away from here, there will be a party. Cake, most likely, and balloons, and brightly colored decorations. Toys and laughter and the chattering of a dear girl who has now officially left being a baby behind, who is now a toddler, who has now entered the so-called “terrible twos”. … Continue reading "March 16th"

Today’s edition of WWW brought to you by pi (because I’m an engineer and a nerd, and find the uniqueness of today – 3/14/15, which won’t happen again for another 100 years – rather fun). If you don’t read the rest of the list, read #6. Priceless. On to more serious things … I found … Continue reading "Worthwhile Weekend Words"

{Pretty}    I love the bond between this girl and her dad, love the way she waves her arms in excitement when he comes home from work each day, love the giggles and grins she reserves for him. This particular moment was from Saturday afternoon, and it brings a smile to my face just thinking about it. … Continue reading "{Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real}"

Telling the Truth

Posted: March 09, 2015 Under: Writing

Authenticity. Transparency. Truth. They are the buzzwords of today, showing up everywhere online from blogs to Facebook (oh, the irony) to news articles. People crave these things, we’re told. We long for them. We want relationships that are real. We don’t want a sugar-coated version of life, the ugly bits brushed aside, hidden from view. … Continue reading "Telling the Truth"

Worthwhile Weekend Words

Here are the things that caught my attention this week: First, from Brain, Mother, an essay about ice cream trucks and childhood and enjoying small pleasures. “But isn’t life richer for the dd, beautiful things that we experience?” I found this exploration of the history of those who were against woman’s suffrage in Britain to … Continue reading "Worthwhile Weekend Words"

{Pretty} Our walks have been absolutely lovely over the last week. I sometimes use our time on the trail to “write” – to work through ideas and phrasings and thoughts in the hopes that the really good stuff will stick long enough for me to jot it down when I get home – but lately, … Continue reading "{Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real}"

Neither Did I

“When hearing of our failed adoption, people often express their dismay. “I could never adopt,” they tell me. “My heart couldn’t take it. I don’t know how you survived; I don’t have the strength to make it through something like that.” Before I lost my daughter, I’m sure I voiced a similar sentiment when confronted … Continue reading "Neither Did I"

We’re getting some much-needed rain in our neck of the woods today – perfect for grabbing a hot cup of coffee or tea and enjoying some good reads. Here are my picks for this week: This family of eight kids stayed together and raised themselves after their single mom died giving birth to the youngest. … Continue reading "Worthwhile Weekend Words"

What I Learned in February

Posted: February 27, 2015 Under: Loving God

I’m joining Emily over at Chatting at the Sky as we reflect on the things we learned in February. In no particular order: 1. Yoga pants. I could wear them all day every day.  There was a big kerfuffle about yoga pants and modesty earlier in the month, and I paid absolutely no attention to any … Continue reading "What I Learned in February"

About Me

Palmer-Family-23 Hi. I’m Jenn. Welcome. I’m glad you’re here.

When I was in high school and college, I thought I would change the world. I would do big things. Become a missionary, perhaps. Start a non-profit. Develop some new product or idea that would save lives. I bought the message being sold in youth groups and Christian schools at the time: that we were made for more than ordinary lives.

But then … well, then life happened.
